Nova Scotia's Department of Transportation is asking motorists to stay off the roads if they can.

The department says salt and sand trucks are out but cold temperatures are preventing the effectiveness of salt on sidewalks and roads.

If you must be out on the roads today, the department asks you slow down and use extra caution.

As the storm clean up continues, the transportation department warns that many roads may be more narrow than drivers are used too.
