Halifax youth turns himself in after Needs Convenience robberies

A youth faces charges after a Halifax Needs Convenience store was robbed twice within three days in late May.

A youth faces charges after a Halifax Needs Convenience store was robbed twice within three days last week. 

A 16-year-old male is facing two counts of robbery, pointing a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon and uttering threats after the Needs Convenience on Chebucto Road was robbed on May 29 and 31.

In both cases, the clerk reported the suspect demanded cash and cigarettes at gunpoint. 

Around 7:40 p.m.Tuesday night, a 16-year-old male turned himself in to police. A replica handgun that police believe was used in the robberies was also seized. 

The youth will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court today. 

Needs Convenience stores around the Halifax area have been targets of numerous robberies in the last month. The Lacewood Needs was robbed on May 19, and the Needs at Herring Cove Road and Withrod Drive was robbed on May 20. 

According to police reports, those robberies also involved armed suspects.
