The Halifax Regional Municipality is enforcing the winter parking ban early Sunday morning as it anticipates the city will be hit with heavy snow, possibly followed by freezing rain and rain.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the city as a late season storm is expected to start as light snow Saturday evening and intensify overnight.

Environment Canada warns the storm will create poor visibility, making travel hazardous.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park on streets between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday.

The city says staff will also be using temporary no parking signs on select streets where it is particularly difficult for local traffic, buses and emergency service providers to navigate around parked vehicles.

Storm Centre has the latest cancellations and conditions.

This marks the 31st time the parking ban has been used in the city, with 9,308 tickets issued and 58 towed vehicles at last count.

The city also notes that under the Motor Vehicle Act vehicles can be ticketed or towed away if they interfere with the work of snowplows.
