Bring your watch if you're heading downtown in Halifax for the next few weeks.

The city's most famous timepiece will be offline for about three weeks while Parks Canada does maintenance on the Old Town Clock on Citadel Hill.

The clock will stop working on Wednesday and won't be up and running again until about May 15.

Maintenance on the famous landmark takes time because all of the mechanisms have to be dismantled, said Lyndin Kane, a spokesperson with Parks Canada.

"It's such a large piece it's time consuming to dismantle it," she said. "Then you have to inspect it and then you have to put it all back together at the end of it."

The clock, which has been a few minutes off this past week, gets worked on once a year, said Kane.

"It will help to make sure it's keeping time accurately," she said.

The clock will be open to the public this summer as part of Doors Open Halifax on June 6 and 7.
