Halifax RCMP say drunk driving arrests thanks to citizens

The arrest of seven impaired drivers this past weekend was thanks, in part, to cooperation with concerned citizens who called police.

Police say calls from the public over the weekend helped officers track down a number of impaired drivers, including one who had a small child in their vehicle.

Halifax RCMP say between Friday evening and Sunday night officers arrested five impaired driving suspects after concerned citizens called police. One more alleged impaired driver was caught at a checkpoint on St. Margarets Bay Road and another was stopped for speeding in the Lower Sackville area.

RCMP say one of the drivers had a small child in the vehicle at the time. Another call resulted in the arrest of a driver who police say was impaired by drugs and was driving a stolen vehicle.

All seven are facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

RCMP say in a news released they are encouraged by how many calls they received from the public.
