Halifax police investigate 'suspicious' deaths on Gottingen Street
Police do not believe it was a random incident, working to confirm identities of 2 victims
Halifax Regional Police are describing the deaths of two people on New Year's Eve as suspicious.
Officers responded to a report of an injured person in the area of 2406 Gottingen St. around 10:35 p.m. AT, according to a news release.
"At this time, we do not believe this was a random incident and we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public," police spokesperson Marla MacInnis said in an emailed statement to CBC News.
Police said a woman was found dead. A man was transported to the QEII hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
"Autopsies are taking place today and we hope to be able to share more information tomorrow," MacInnis said.
"We'll have official confirmation on the identities once the autopsies are complete."
The investigation is being led by the homicide unit.
Police have cleared the scene on Gottingen Street between Charles and Uniacke streets.
