Halifax Fire eases recruitment requirements for potential firefighters
The new selection process eliminates post-secondary certification requirement and fees
For the first time in nine years Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency is launching a recruitment drive for people interested in a career in fire fighting.
Halifax Regional Council approved a new selection process for recruits earlier this week that removes barriers for new applicants.
The new process eliminates the need for a post-secondary certification and recruitment fees that in the past cost recruits upwards of $1000.
The HRFE says the new requirements "eliminates barriers" for those who want a career in fire fighting.
- Grade 12 education
- Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver's Licence, or equivalent from other province
- Criminal record check with no job-related convictions for an offence which has not been pardoned
- Ability to communicate clearly in English
- 18 or older
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Potential recruits should be community-minded, highly motivated, physically fit and a team player.
