Halifax's auditor general checking to make sure recommendations followed
'It's one thing for them to say they're completed. It's another thing for us to say we agree.'
Halifax's auditor general will review all 600 recommendations his office has made since 2009 to ensure city staff have followed through on the changes.
"This was just a good time to cycle back," said Larry Munroe, the municipal auditor general. "It's one thing for them to say they're completed. It's another thing for us to say we agree."
The review got underway in January. So far 2 of the 33 reports the auditor general has published have been signed off on as completed.
Munroe said the administration is co-operating.
"We're not hitting any speed bumps." said Munroe, "As the saying goes, so far so good."
The review is expected to take until next spring to complete. Once a report is signed off as completed it'll be posted on the auditor general's website.
The auditor general has published several controversial reports including on overtime, the city's concert scandal and the Washmill Lake Underpass project.
Munroe said a review won't be needed for future reports because a new process of regularly checking in with the administration has been established.
Munroe discussed this issue at Halifax's audit and finance committee meeting earlier today. The CBC's Pam Berman live blogged from the meeting.
