Police in Halifax are warning people about a phone scam involving fraudsters claiming to be the grandchildren of senior citizens.

The caller poses as the grandchild and says they have an emergency and need money.

In the other scam, a caller says they are with a utility company and need a prepaid credit card to pay for arrears on the person's account.

Police say that once the caller has the credit card information, the money can be instantly downloaded and is not recoverable.
