A Halifax bar will be pulling out all the crop tops in support of an employee who says she's often judged by patrons for wearing the belly-baring shirts.

The Good Robot Brewing Company has declared Friday "Crop Top Tolerance Day" at the Robie Street establishment in support of employee Jillian Bernier. Crop tops will be worn by staff, owners and "anyone else who enjoys the cool convective sensation of fresh air on belly fat," as the company Facebook page put it.

The bar says #CroToTo was born because "we've had a few complaints from taproom patrons about Jill's crop tops."

I feel like I shouldn't be offending anyone by being who I am, because I'm not offended by anyone being who they are.- Jillian Bernier

Bernier, speaking with CBC Halifax's Information Morning, said crop tops are both her favoured style preference and a practical choice in a taproom that is often hot and humid when beer is being brewed.

"A lot of people will say 'Aren't you cold?' especially because I do still wear crop tops in the winter," she said. "Or, oh, the girl who's naked will serve you, or the girl that's half-naked over there."

Bernier said she finds the comments unnecessary, especially because she often wears a serving apron which means the only region exposed on her torso is her lower back.

Bernier said the comments come from men and women equally.

"I feel like I shouldn't be offending anyone by being who I am, because I'm not offended by anyone being who they are," she said.

Good Robot says patrons are welcome to wear crop tops, too.

"So join us and show off your beer reservoir," the Facebook page says.
