Frontier, TV series starring Game of Thrones star filming in Louisbourg
Jason Momoa is appearing in the show, which is being filmed in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia
Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has been creating a sensation in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in the last week as the lead actor in Discovery Canada's upcoming six-part production, Frontier, its first original scripted series.
The cast also includes Alun Armstrong, Landon Liboiron, Zoe Boyle and Allan Hawco. The show is being filmed mostly in Newfoundland, and will shoot for a few days in Louisbourg, N.S.
The show centres on the sometimes bloody struggle for wealth and power in the North American fur trade of the late 18th century.
The executive producer is Peter Blackie of Take the Shot Productions, who's also a co-creator and writer.
Much of the production Monday, took place at the Fortress of Louisbourg.
CBC Cape Breton associate producer Rob Doublett was given access to the set, under strict conditions, including not being able to take pictures of the actors' faces.
He saw them getting ready to shoot what appeared to be a battle scene and estimated there were between 30 to 50 people on the site.
Doublett asked the production team how many locals are being used for Frontier, but did not get a number.
The series will debut next year in Canada on Bell Media platforms including Discovery, Discovery GO, and CraveTV, and on Netflix in international markets.
