The Cape Breton Regional Municipality is using its official Facebook page to try and match residents who need help removing snow with contractors who can do the work.

The "WORKERS NEEDED!" post went up Wednesday afternoon. It has already been shared more than 650 times and garnered 100 comments, many of them advertising availability for snow removal.

Dozens of contractors with plows, front-end loaders and backhoes are posting their numbers and say they are available to move snow. Many say they are charging reasonable prices.

"We have a 4-wheel drive truck that can transport essential services workers to work," wrote Jean Mac Neil-Butler. "We also have a snowblower for drive ways that comes with a 20-year-old boy with a shovel for steps and around vehicles."

In some cases, local residents are also volunteering to shovel.

"My grandmother could definitely use the help," wrote Katelyn Piercey. Chelsea MacDonald replied: "If she's close, I'd be more than happy to shovel her out!"

Those who need help should call contractors themselves, but are asked not to leave their addresses on the Facebook page itself.
