Two people are dead and three injured after a head-on collision on Nova Scotia's Highway 104 Monday morning.

A westbound tractor-trailer collided with a car near French River, east of New Glasgow, at about 7:30 a.m.

RCMP said it appears the eastbound car was passing another vehicle or had just passed when it struck the truck. A three-wheeled Harley Davidson motorcycle that was behind the truck lost control while trying to avoid the crash.

One person in the car and one person on the motorcycle died.

RCMP continue to investigate the crash and say sunlight in the eyes of the drivers could have been a contributing factor.  CBC reporter Kevin Harvey said it was somewhat foggy at the time but it was bright because the sun was coming up.

The highway was scattered with debris. The road between exits 27 and 29 was closed and traffic was being rerouted on Trunk 4.

There have been several fatal crashes on the highway in the past week.

"We've gone many, many years of course without any incidents in this location and now of course we've had within probably about a 10-kilometre zone three very serious accidents or collisions in the last week," said RCMP Cpl. Andrew Joyce.

It happened near the site of a collision on Wednesday that killed the drivers of a tanker truck and a pickup truck.
