Canadian Living magazine recently voted Dartmouth restaurant John’s Lunch, near the Woodside ferry terminal, as having the best fish and chips in the country.

A Dartmouth fish and chip shop was recently voted the best in the country in Canadian Living magazine.

John’s Lunch, a Dartmouth institution since 1968, near the Woodside ferry terminal is a well known restaurant in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Part of the reason for the Canadian Living magazine best fish and chip shop designation is perhaps the restaurant’s commitment to making homemade batter from scratch each morning.

"We make fish for fish and chips seven days a week, every morning, so that means everything is fresh," said co-owner Fotis Fatouros.

Fatouros and his partner, Stratos Baltas, bought the chip shop in 1988.

The CBC's David Thurton got the best assignment of the day and took a tour of John's Lunch.
