Const. David Wynn getting support from Nova Scotia
Wynn was a paramedic in Bridgewater for 13 years before becoming a Mountie
Nova Scotians continue to share messages of support for the family of RCMP Const. David Wynn, shot in the head at close range while trying to arrest a suspect in a casino outside of Edmonton early Saturday.
Wynn was a paramedic in Bridgewater, N.S. for 13 years before becoming a Mountie.
The father of three, has been unconscious in hospital and is listed in grave condition.
Monday evening his family thanked the RCMP for their support and announced that they were taking some time to say their goodbyes before taking him off life support.
The Wynns still call Nova Scotia home. On Tuesday, RCMP members past and present were sharing their sympathies with Wynn and his family.
Gerry LaPierre with the RCMP Nova Scotia Veterans Association says it's tough to be so far away.
"You know where these places are in Canada. You understand what the anguish is for the family," he said. "The people back here in Nova Scotia are quite supportive and want to help, and it's very difficult with the distance."
N.S. RCMP dealing with news
LaPierre says the association can provide help to the family with paperwork or just a sympathetic ear.
"We'd be quite willing if they wanted help from us, it's just there for the asking," he said.
Sgt. Alain Leblanc with Nova Scotia RCMP says they are also dealing with this news.
"Our men and women go out every day to protect citizens, to make our communities safer. When we hear about this news, it's very difficult to hear," he said. "Certainly we're thinking about them for sure in this very difficult time."
RCMP members and veterans are also offering their support to auxiliary constable Derek Bond, who was shot in the arm and the torso during the same incident. He's been released from hospital and is just beginning his recovery.
