Conciliation talks break down in Northwood contract dispute

The union for 420 home support workers at Northwood in Halifax says conciliation talks have broken down.

The union for 420 home support workers at Northwood in Halifax says conciliation talks have broken down.

The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union says the workers are looking for contract parity with those doing the same work in hospitals.

An emergency meeting of Local 34 has been set for Sunday to discuss the final contract offer from Northwood and to hold a vote.

The union says its bargaining committee is recommending the offer be rejected.

If the offer is rejected the union says the countdown to a strike would begin once the conciliator files a report.
