The six Cape Breton Regional Municipality mayoral candidates debated the issues facing their community Wednesday night, focusing on equalization payments, mental health services in policing and the port of Sydney's future.

Six people are on the ballot for the Oct. 17 election: Cecil Clarke, Amanda McDougall, Chris Abbass, Kevin MacEachern, Archie MacKinnon and John Strasser.

The two-hour debate was held at Membertou Trade and Convention Centre and can be watched here or on the CBC Nova Scotia Facebook page.

CBC's Information Morning host Steve Sutherland moderated Wednesday's forum. Portions of the debate will air on the show in the weeks leading up to election day.
