A 42-year-old man has died in hospital after being pulled from the water at Chocolate Lake Beach Sunday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police say they received the call for help at 3 p.m. When they arrived, the man was out of the water and being treated by lifeguards.

Sgt. Gerrald Gibbons says efforts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the Halifax Infirmary "as the result of drowning." He said the man was at the beach with his young child.

The incident occurred as emergency officials scoured Lake Banook in Dartmouth after receiving reports of a suspected drowning. A 58-year-old man's body was pulled from that lake.

Police are not releasing the names of either man.

"It's very sad day for the family members and the people who were involved in the recovery for both males," said Gibbons.
