A new commander to CFB Halifax has been appointed during a ceremony at Stadacona today.
At Porteous Field, Captain Chris Sutherland assumed command of Halifax's Canadian Forces Base, one of Canada's largest.
"I am both honoured and humbled to have been selcted to serve with the outstanding CAF and civilian members of the CFB Halifax defence team," said Sutherland in a statement released Friday.
"CFB Halifax works extremely hard to provide for the security, health, morale, welfare and training needs of our sailors, aviators and soldiers."
Sutherland was born in Teulon, Manitoba and graduated from the Royal Military College in 1991. He served as Commanding Officer on HMCS Iroquois, Gatineau, Charlottetown, Halifax and Montreal.
He takes over the command that's been held by Captain Angus Topshee since 2012, who will be going to the Canadian Forces College in Toronto to complete the National Security Program.
