Parts of Cape Breton were expected to be slammed with 100 centimetres of snow between Sunday and Monday, according to CBC meteorologist Ryan Snoddon.

Inverness and Victoria counties were forecast to receive 25 to 50 centimetres in total, but up to 100 centimetres was possible in the Cape Breton Highlands.

On Monday, winter storm warnings remained in effect for Inverness and Victoria counties, where another 10 to 20 centimetres was expected by Monday evening. An additional 50 centimetres was expected to fall over the Highlands.

Environment Canada said snow and blowing snow would persist throughout the day Monday, with gradual improvement expected overnight and into Tuesday morning.

Snoddon warned that visibility would be limited with the snow and blowing snow. Driving conditions could be impacted.

Pictou and Antigonish counties were also expected to receive five to 10 centimetres in total, with winds between 70 to 90 km/h.

Marine Atlantic cancelled its Sunday departures and the 11:45 a.m. departures on Monday.
