Halifax wants to build a new playground in Bedford's DeWolf Park, even though the one that's being torn down has just received some high praise.

The municipality issued a tender seeking proposals from companies hoping to win the contract to build a new play structure.

But last month, Parenting Magazine named the park one of Atlantic Canada's eight best playgrounds. The older wooden structure is modelled after the HMCS Haida and is one of the Halifax's largest playgrounds.

"Toddlers to preteens will have a ball touring the vast wooden vessel," said the magazine.

The playground was also listed as one of Nova Scotia's coolest playgrounds, in a recent poll by Mainstreet listeners.

Coun. Tim Outhit said there have been safety concerns about the structure.

"The location is what people love most, and that will not change," said Outhit.
