Alleged pedophile's ties to Nova Scotia shocks community

People in Greenwood, N.S.,are reacting with shock that the man accused of being the world's most wanted pedophile once lived in their town.

Christopher Paul Neil, 32, from B.C.,is the subject of an international manhunt. He's wanted in connection with a series of photos posted online showing a man raping Asian boys as young as six.

In the summers of 1998 and 1999, Neil worked as a chaplain at an air cadet camp in Cornwallis Park. In 2000, he was at the training centre in Greenwood. His job wasto counselcadets and teach a course on morality.

Greenwood resident Shelly Lincoln said she was surprised to hear of the local connection, "but it can happen anywhere, I guess."

"Everything is so widespread geographically that nothing surprises you anymore," said another resident,Earl Hardy.

The Canadian military says there are no allegations that any abuses occurred in Nova Scotia.The RCMP, however, expects calls from worried parents.

"Today we just received one call. But where the person is alleged to have committed several sexual offences and had access to so many kids here in Nova Scotia, we anticipate that we may have oncoming disclosures," said Cpl. David Fox.

Neil also served with the cadets at Fort Qu'appelle, Sask., during the summer of 1997.

After heleft Nova Scotia, he taught English in South Korea. He is believed to be in Thailand.
