3 rail cars carrying steel derail in New Glasgow, no injuries

Three rail cars carrying sheets of steel derailed in the downtown area of New Glasgow on Thursday evening.

Three rail cars carrying sheets of steel derailed in the downtown area of New Glasgow on Thursday evening.

New Glasgow police say nobody was injured in the derailment, which occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on a spur line running towards the town of Trenton.

The remainder of the rail cars belonging to the Cape Breton Central Nova Scotia Railways were transported back to the Stellarton rail yard.

Police say the derailed cars were carrying sheets of steel.

Members of the railway were at the scene on Thursday investigating the cause of the derailment.
