A ceremony to honour the American war dead was held Monday on Deadmans Island in Halifax.
It coincides with Memorial Day — a national holiday in the U.S. to remember men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces — as well as the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
Hundreds of American prisoners of war from that conflict are buried at Deadmans Island.
The CBC's Rob Gordon was at the ceremony and prepared this report.
