$1.3M for Sydney boardwalk expansion
Federal money will help update waterfront in Cape Breton
The Sydney boardwalk expansion is getting $1.3 million from Canada’s federal government.
Rob Moore, the minister for Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, made the announcement in Cape Breton Monday.
The expansion includes the installation of armour stone, electrical enhancements and the removal of concrete and timber from an old structure.
Moore says the project is a boost for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and will bring more visitors to the community.
“We believe in investing in tourism and there's a lot of great work that's happening here in Cape Breton when it comes to attracting visitors,” he said.
“This walkway is a big part of that. It's going to connect the downtown core to cruise ship passengers to give them a revitalized area to walk around and be connected to.”
The expansion is expected to be completed in June.
