Travel Yukon turns attention to fat-tire cycling in latest promotion

Two-wheeled travellers are the subject of the Yukon Government's latest advertising promotion, which is attempting to lure visitors to the territory through fat-tire bicycling.

Travel Yukon contributed $15,000 in funding for the promotional video, released three days ago, that shows people cycling on Bennett Lake, in the southern part of the territory, and trails by the nearby community of Carcross.

Boreale Biking, which offers rentals of fat tire bikes, worked with Union Production to make the video. David Pharand of Boreale Biking said he is excited about the government's decision to highlight the practice, saying that the market is growing.

Last year, according to Pharand, only about a half-dozen people travelled to the Yukon specifically to ride the bikes.

"That was with no marketing," he said. "This year, it's just beginning, and we've already doubled that."
