Yukon senator says expense rules to be tightened
Yukon Senator Dan Lang is joining his colleagues in expressing disappointment over revelations about other senators' expenses.
Three Conservative senators and one Liberal have quit their caucuses over the issue.
Dan Lang said it's clear that some of his colleagues have been abusing the public trust when it comes to expenses and other claims.
"I think the question is ‘were they adhering to the rules?’ and any Canadian that's out there listening would say that they weren't, so the question is ‘were they being ethical?’, I leave that to your listener, but I would say no."
Lang said accountability rules have actually been tightened substantially in recent years and he said they'll now be tightened even more.
Most Ottawa commentators are skeptical anything will change. Lang said that's unfair.
"The fact is that some individuals, for whatever reasons, don't understand the rules even now and although there's a hundred of us that do, we're clarifying those rules even further."
Lang added he's never had trouble figuring out where he lives.
