Yukon's Air North makes its first flight from Whitehorse to Ottawa via Yellowknife this morning.

The Boeing 737 is scheduled to leave Whitehorse around 7:30 a.m. PT and will arrive in Yellowknife around 10:20 a.m. MT.

The airline is hoping the flight will serve federal and territorial government workers and miners who work up North but live in the east.

It's also expecting the flight will draw tourists to the North for weekend excursions.

Air North is holding small events in the Whitehorse and Yellowknife airports to mark the occasion.
