Yukon's Air North adds flight to Yellowknife, Ottawa

Yukon's Air North is adding a flight from Whitehorse to Ottawa via Yellowknife, it announced Thursday.

Twice-weekly route will be only direct flight from Yukon/N.W.T. to Ottawa

Yukon's Air North is adding a flight from Whitehorse to Ottawa via Yellowknife, it announced Thursday.

Allan Moore, the airline's director of commercial development, says the decision to add the flight is based on market research.

"It's an important route for the North," he said. "There's nobody directly linking the two territories at the moment, and there's nobody linking directly the Northwest Territories or the Yukon with Ottawa itself."

Moore is confident there will be enough demand. He expects the flight will serve federal and territorial government workers and miners who work up North but live in the east.

He said the flight may also draw tourists to the North for weekend excursions.

The twice-weekly flight will commence once the airline receives regulatory approval.
