Yukon Quest race begins in Whitehorse

Twenty-six mushers started their 1,600 km journey Saturday from Whitehorse to Fairbanks, Alaska, for the 30th running of the Yukon Quest.

Dawson City, Yukon, musher Brian Wilmshurst, who drew bib no.1 on Thursday, was the first to depart at 11 a.m. local time from Shipyards Park.

The first mushers are expected to cross the finish line in Fairbanks in about 10 days.
