Here's a look at what's happening in Yukon this weekend:
Live Words! Yukon Writer's Festival
What: Authors Noah Richler, Dianne Whelan, Sandy Marie Bonny, Bob Hayes and Heather O'Neill are reading from their works at various events around the territory.
When and Where:
- "My Father The Raven", reading and talk by Noah Richler, about his father Mordecai Richler, Friday 7 p.m., Old Fire Hall, Whitehorse
- Reading and slide show by Dianne Whelan, Saturday, 3 p.m., Watson Lake Library
- Reading by Heather O'Neill, Saturday, 1 p.m., Well-Read Books in Whitehorse
- Readings by Noah Richler, Heather O'Neill, Sandy Marie Bonny and Bob Hayes, Saturday, 7 p.m., Haines Junction Library
- Storied Science: Sandy Marie Bonny, Sunday, 7:30 p.m., Yukon Beringia Centre, Whitehorse.
Hunter and gatherers
What: The Guild Society presents its last play of this season, Hunter Gatherers by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb. It's described as a dark comedy where the line between civilized and primal man is blurred. It stars local actors Carrie Burgess, Mike Ellis, Brynn Lepp and Jason Westover and Vancouver director Brian Cochrane. It's recommended for mature audiences. When: Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and then Tuesdays to Saturdays until May 7th.
Where: The Guild Hall in Whitehorse (Porter Creek).
Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival
What: A program of outdoor and mountaineering films comes to the Kluane region. You can see the best films from the Vancouver festival, along with some local films.
When: Friday barbeque 5:30 p.m., films 7 to 10 p.m.
Where: St. Elias Convention Centre, Haines Junction
Sanktuary CD release
What: Whitehorse heavy metal band Sanktuary is holding a concert to release its album, Winter's Doom.
When: Friday, 10 p.m.
Where: Jarvis Street Saloon, Whitehorse
Rotary Music Festival
What: Yukon musicians and dancers have been performing for festival adjudicators at the 2016 Rotary Music Festival. The final concerts are set for this weekend.
When: Junior-level concert, Friday, 7 p.m., Senior-level concert, Saturday, 7 p.m.
Where: Yukon Arts Centre, Whitehorse
