Yukon lottery winners pick up their cheque
Yukon's newest millionaires picked up their cheque this week.
The group of eight co-workers who hit it big on the Nov. 1 Lotto Max draw will share half of the $50 million total prize. The other half of the prize went to one winner in B.C.
The Yukon group includes Glenda Benoit, Jovita Murphy, Shelley Shaw, Krista Pickett, Ron Meers and Craig McKinnon of Faro, Tracey Parkin from Ross River and Sukie Sidhu of Whitehorse.
Each member of the group will receive about $3.12 million.
Some members of the group had previously said they will continue to work with the Faro Mine Remediation Project. But, when picking up the cheque, McKinnon told the Western Canada Lottery Corporation “I want to golf ‘til I die."
The lottery corporation says the Faro group’s win is the largest lottery prize ever won on a ticket purchased in Yukon. The previous record win was a $1 million Set For Life prize won by a Whitehorse resident in September 2005.
