Yukon Humane Society case in Supreme Court

The Registrar of Societies has already taken the Yukon Humane Society to territorial court, and now is asking the Yukon Supreme Court to enforce his orders.

Yukon Supreme Court hearing scheduled for Thursday

Yukon's societies watchdog has filed more court action against directors of the Yukon Humane Society.

The Registrar of Societies has already laid charges in territorial court, and now is asking the Yukon Supreme Court to enforce his orders.

Investigators for the registrar recently determined the current board of the Humane Society has taken control illegally.

The board has ousted certain members and denied membership to others. It refuses to open the society’s books, and it has ignored the registrar's orders to hold new elections.

The Yukon Humane Society operates the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter in Whitehorse.

Court proceedings against the board’s directors started last week.

The registrar wants the Yukon Supreme Court to enforce all the orders ignored so far, and he wants the current board of directors held liable for the costs spent fighting the case.

The registrar says they have breached their duties to the society and should be held accountable.

A hearing is scheduled for this Thursday.
