Yellowknife woman waits 3 weeks for mail

Canada Post is continuing to experience problems in Yellowknife, with some residents still awaiting their mail.
Gillian Burles went for three weeks without mail in Yellowknife over the holidays.

Gillian Burles of Yellowknife went three weeks without mail: no paycheques, no Christmas cards.... nothing.

"It's frustrating and puzzling,” she says. “Ironically I was thinking that we should notify our member of parliament, but I guess I can't write him a letter."

Two weeks ago a representative from Canada Post said priority had been given to old age security payments.

But Burles’ husband hasn't received his.

"The last time he received his Canada Pension would have been the end of November.”

During an interview with a CBC reporter, Burles went to check her post office box, and found her mail had arrived.
Burles complained but never received a response.

She was beginning to wonder if it was just her family's mail that wasn't being delivered.

"It's not just our route in the downtown area. It seems to be impacting Frame Lake South, the Old Town area and in the Rycon area as well."

Surprisingly enough, during an interview with a CBC reporter, Burles went to check her post office box, and found her mail had arrived. No pension cheques, however.

Canada Post says the delays are due to a staff shortage, but they're trying their best to get the situation resolved.
