Man caught smoking on Yellowknife-bound flight charged with trafficking cocaine
Police investigation followed a call for help from the Yellowknife airport tower
- UPDATE | Robert Zukowsky was found guilty of possession for the purpose of trafficking in December 2017. The charge of smoking on an aircraft was withdrawn.
RCMP seized 300 grams of crack cocaine at the Yellowknife airport on Sunday after responding to a call about a passenger smoking in the bathroom on an inbound flight.
RCMP said in a news release that they received a request for assistance from the Yellowknife airport tower at about 10:30 Sunday night, regarding an Air Canada flight from Calgary.
"Through subsequent investigation, approximately 300 grams of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia were seized," the statement said.
Robert Zukowsky, 38, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and breach of probation.
He's also been charged under the Canadian Aviation Regulations Act for smoking in an aircraft lavatory.
Insp. Matt Peggs told CBC it's not a charge the Yellowknife RCMP often lays.
Zukowsky is in custody and due in court on Thursday.
RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.
