Yellowknife offers free use of Fieldhouse for August
The mayor of Yellowknife says free use of Fieldhouse is aimed at travellers looking for showers and residents looking for indoor recreation opportunities away from the smoke.
The City of Yellowknife announced Tuesday it is offering free use of the Fieldhouse for showers and recreation while the impact of wildfires continues to affect travel and air quality in the area.
Officials say the free use period will last until Sept. 2.
They want people to be able to exercise while staying indoors and away from smoke. That includes the walking/running track and the children's play area in the Fieldhouse.
The shower facilities are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. for people affected by highway closures.
That includes commercial truckers who are welcome to park at the Fieldhouse.
