Fires are now permitted in city-approved pits. City officials are still reminding people to be cautious and to completely extinguish any fires they do build.
N.W.T.'s Department of Environment and Natural Resources forest fire website indicates that they're monitoring a fire about three kilometres from Yellowknife caused by an abandoned campfire.
