Woman struck by car in downtown Whitehorse crosswalk

A 60-year-old woman is in hospital after she was struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk at Main Street and Third Avenue in Whitehorse this morning.

A 60-year-old woman is in hospital after being struck by a car on Main Street in downtown Whitehorse Wednesday morning.

The collision happened just after 10 a.m. at the Third Avenue crosswalk.

Julie Lachapelle was one of a number of witnesses.

"That car was coming on Third to Main and ... obviously she didn't see the lady and she hit her and she flew in the air about 10 feet," she said. "It was a bad hit."

Traffic at the intersection was blocked off temporarily as paramedics tended to the victim and police investigated the scene.

RCMP Const. Dean Hoogland says the woman's injuries were not life-threatening.

He says the incident is under investigation.
