Whitehorse RCMP recovered the body of a male from Schwatka Lake on Thursday.

Body of male found Thursday morning, investigation underway

Whitehorse RCMP retrieved the body of a male from Schwatka Lake Thursday.

Police received a report of a body around 11 a.m., police said in a news release.

"Yukon Coroner's Service confirms that the body is that of a male however the identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed," said acting Chief Coroner Heather Jones in the release.

The Yukon Coroner's Service has ordered an autopsy. Jones said the investigation is ongoing.

A 19-year-old man went missing in the Yukon River June 15 after he jumped or slipped off a cliff in Miles Canyon.
