Whitehorse man get 2 years for making semi-automatic weapons
Dustin Mackie was sentenced to two years less a day on Tuesday for making and selling up to 100 semi-automatic rifles.
A Whitehorse man who made semi-automatic rifles in his backyard was sentenced to two years less a day in territorial court on Tuesday.
Dustin Mackie made between 50 and 100 AR-15 guns, illegally, in a shed at his home in the Northland Trailer Park.
Police believe the guns were sold to drug dealers in southern Canada and the U.S.
Judge Michael Cozens said it's possible not all the guns were used for illegal purposes, but that Mackie had to know some of the guns would eventually be used in violent crimes.
The judge sentenced him to two years, less a day, in addition to the time he's already served.
Mackie's sentence of less than two years will allow him to serve his time at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre.
