3 suspensions lead to criminal charges, police say
RCMP in Whitehorse issued a series of 24-hour driving suspensions over the weekend, as officers cracked down on impaired drivers.
Eight suspensions were issued, and three of those lead to impaired driving charges.
One Whitehorse resident is facing several other charges as well, after driving into a ditch and fleeing from police on foot.
Police had spotted the vehicle speeding down the Alaska Highway, just after midnight on Saturday. By the time the RCMP vehicle had turned around to give chase, the vehicle was in the ditch.
The person who fled was found a short time later and arrested, police said.
The driver was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, obstructing an officer, and impaired driving.
