A Whitehorse family is saying their dog required a blood transfusion after consuming poison sometime on Monday. Police and a pet advocacy group are asking for the public's help to solve the case.

Dog required transfusion after City's fourth case of poisoning in 3 months

Whitehorse RCMP are reporting another possible dog poisoning in the community.

Two dogs died and another got sick back in March after they consumed consumed strychnine, a toxin often found in rat poison, in the city's Porter Creek neighbourhood

According to police, another Porter Creek resident reported their dog seemed healthy Monday night, but could not walk properly on Tuesday morning. The dog was given a blood transfusion and is now recovering.

The veterinarian that treated the dog told the family that he had concerns the dog was the victim of a slow-acting poison.

The family cannot pinpoint where the poisoning might have occurred, saying that they live in Porter Creek's Ninth Avenue area, but walk their dog in various parts of the neighbourhood and wooded areas surrounding the subdivision.

Kona's Coalition, a local pet advocate organization, has offered a reward for any information that leads to an arrest.

Whitehorse RCMP are asking anyone with any information to please contact them directly at (867) 667-5555 or contact Kona's Coalition.
