Trial date set for Yukon Humane Society board
A trial date has been set for directors of the Yukon Humane Society charged with ignoring orders from the Yukon Registrar of Societies.
A trial date has been set for directors of the Yukon Humane Society charged with ignoring orders from the Yukon Registrar of Societies.
President Shelley Cuthbert, along with directors Isabelle Cote, Jillian Chown, Maryanne Baer, and Gerald Thompson are named in the charges.
The trial is set for Feb. 25 in territorial court.
The registrar's orders were recently upheld and enforced by a Yukon Supreme Court ruling. That ruling calls for a public meeting Thursday in Whitehorse to elect a new board of directors for the humane society.
Lawyers for the registrar have told the court they want the ousted directors held accountable if it's determined they misspent funds.
Lawyers believe it's the first prosecution of its kind in Yukon history.
