Tom Sammurtok resigns as Nunavut cabinet minister

Tom Sammurtok resigned Tuesday from Nunavut's cabinet but will remain MLA for Rankin Inlet North-Chesterfield Inlet.

Tom Sammurtok, MLA for Rankin Inlet North-Chesterfield Inlet, has resigned as a cabinet minister, the Nunavut legislative assembly announced Wednesday.

Sammurtok resigned Tuesday during a caucus meeting.

He will continue to serve as an MLA.

Sammurtok was stripped of his cabinet portfolio last month after being charged with drunk driving.

Caucus chair Steve Mapsalak said the size of cabinet will remain at eight, with no new ministers appointed, until the mid-term leadership review in the fall when cabinet size will be discussed.
