Toilet fire in Whitehorse park deemed suspicious
Whitehorse RCMP are investigating after a portable toilet caught fire in Shipyards Park early Friday morning.
Const. Dean Hoogland says police were called to the park just before 2 a.m. The fire was in a portable toilet near the tracks in the market area.
"The flames were contained to inside the unit," said Hoogland. "The fire department quickly extinguished this fire."
He says the fire was suspicious in nature so police are continuing with the investigation, but haven't identified any suspects.
This isn't the first portable toilet fire in Whitehorse. Six toilets were set ablaze and destroyed in Rotary Peace Park in October 2011.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Whitehorse RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
