Audio reference tool aimed at helping youth brush up on aboriginal language
The Tlicho Community Services Agency has teamed up with language experts at the University of Victoria to create a Tlicho language app for iPhones.
It's an audio reference tool for someone who wants to work on their Tlicho.
Partial funding for it came from the Government of the Northwest Territories.
Mason Mantla, 21, of Behchoko, N.W.T., says he has always wanted to be fluent in his traditional language.
"A lot of Tlicho youth that I know, a lot of the kids have iPod touches, iPads and this would be one way to reach them and give them that sort of initiative to speak the language on their own time," he said.
Mantla says he plans to be one of the first people to download the app, which is expected to be ready for free download by May.
