Voters head to the polls today in the four Tlicho communities of Behchoko, Whati, Gameti and Wekweeti in the Northwest Territories.

There are multiple candidates for chief and council seats in all four communities, including all four current chiefs. In Behchoko and Whati, two women are running for chief.

More than half of the 20 candidates for council in Behchoko are women.

During a community forum in Behchoko last month, residents told candidates that crime, homelessness and the integrity of their chief and councillors are the main issues they want to see addressed.

CBC North also hosted the five candidates for chief of Behchoko in a Facebook broadcast in the Tlicho language before the election. Follow this link to watch it.
