Dawson City's first modern "tiny homes" are on the market and Trina Buhler, who built and owns them, says they fit well with Dawson’s heritage.

“The two corrugated ones, they are circa 1898, so they are Gold Rush era structures that do belong in Dawson,” she says.

“We did add a different type of porch-style to the front of them, and I tried not to put up any handrails or anything that would encumber the buildings themselves.”

Buhler specializes in architectural technology and spent the last 11 years in building restoration with Parks Canada.

The third home was built based on sketches and photos after the original structure burned down in 2007.

The 600-square-foot homes are energy efficient.

All three buildings and the lot they sit on are being sold as a package.

Bids close October 1 at 9 a.m.

Lottery planned for 6 new lots

Meanwhile, the town of Dawson City will soon be offering six county residential lots to people who want to build homes in the community.

The parcels range from 2.5 to 3.75 acres. They're located in east Dawson, off Mary McLeod Road.

Jeff Renaud, Dawson City's chief administrative officer, says there's already a lot of interest in the properties.

“We will be advertising it for a six-week period, once it's launched and then we'll do the lottery process,” he says. “We've had a lot of calls, a lot of inquiries about the lots, so we're very hopeful this will be a really, really successful process and we'll be able to get some more lots out there for people to build homes on.”

Renaud says crews are finishing up road work and infrastructure projects and prices for the lots have not been set.

The lottery draw could take place as early as November.
