A 21-year-old man has been charged in Tuesday's armed robbery of The Rooster convenience store in Hay River, N.W.T.

At around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, a masked man entered the store carrying a rifle. Clerk William Delorme described the robber as "incompetent," saying he pointed the gun at him with the bolt hanging open and thus unable to fire and demanded that Delorme open the ATM machine, which he is unable to do.

The robber fled with $200 from the till.

A man is now facing six charges, including robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon while prohibited, possession of a weapon without a licence and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He will appear in territorial court in Yellowknife on Thursday.
