Students in Ross River are finally back in their school after the building was closed indefinitely in January.

The only school in the community of about 350 people was closed indefinitely on Jan. 19 after the building was deemed unsafe. The community library, located in the same building, was also closed.

Staff had reported cracks in the walls, which ultimately led to concerns about the building's structural integrity.

Students finished the school year in temporary classrooms in various locations around the community.

Yukon's department of education says the repairs, which included fixing the foundation and leveling the building, cost almost $2 million.

Yukon says the school has been inspected by engineers and is now considered safe.
